SPATIAL DISTRIBUTIONS AND RISK FACTORS OF OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY AMONG WOMEN IN NIGERIA USING STRUCTURED GEO-ADDITIVE REGRESSION MODELS: ANALYSIS OF 2018 NIGERIA DEMOGRAPHIC HEALTH SURVEY

Overweight and obesity which are known to pose serious health problems becoming increasingly prevalent in Nigeria is a sub-Saharan African country. This study utilized the 2018 Demographic Health Survey examine demographic socio-economic risk factors of overweight among Nigerian women aged 15-49 years. Exploratory analysis was used provide basic description data while semiparametric structured additive models describe relationship between presumed status also accounting for spatial effects at state level. The national prevalence found be 27.4%. Increased strongly associated with being older, high educational level, rich, living an urban area, having many children, pregnant, residing southern part Nigeria. In respect ethnicity religion, Fulani tribe Islamic religion were lower obesity. significantly more Southern parts compared Northern highest lowest observed Anambra Yobe states respectively.
